About the Artist

Mary Freida

I have been involved in the arts for over 30 years. By profession I am a Registered Nurse with a Masters in Nursing Education but early on in my nursing career I knew that I loved the arts.

In 1989, two friends and I created a business called Swamp Reed Basketry. We created artistic basketries and participated in many art festivals throughout the Finger Lakes Region in Upstate NY. Soon after I became active in the Gallery on Main Street, in Canandaigua NY. The Gallery was an artist co-op that offered an opportunity to sell artwork.

As time moved on I found a new passion in the arts, oil painting. I have been studying under local artist Pat Rhini Rhorer for over 14 years. Throughout this time I have taken classes with artists such as Dick Cane, Barbara Doyle, Pat Tribastone and David Lussier. I continue to grow in my love of the arts as a studio and Plein Air artist.

In 2019 I joined a Plein Air group called the Pop Up Artists of the Finger Lakes. This group is so much fun and we spend time painting outside as much as possible.

When Covid descended upon the world in 2020 I have become a faithful viewer of Eric Rhoads. I have attended Plein Air Live, Realism Live and Watercolor Live. I have learned so much during these trying days from Artists all around the world. The majority of my paintings are originals but a few are from the numerous classes that I have taken during this time while in quarantine.
